Wildberries to start Nov sales early, up discounts to 10 bln rbl

MOSCOW, Oct 25 (PRIME) -- Russian online retailer Wildberries will start November shopping events earlier and raise discounts to 10 billion rubles from the earlier announced 8 billion rubles, the company said on Monday in a statement.

“After the decision on (the COVID) restrictive measures, business representatives asked Wildberries to move the Singles’ Day sales (on November 11) to October 28, the day of closure of retail stores to offset losses,” Wildberries said, adding that the company welcomed the initiative.

Wildberries said in early October that it would invest 8 billion rubles in the November shopping events – on November 11, tied to China’s Singles’ Day, and the Black Friday on November 26, symbolizing the start of the pre-New Year sales season.

President Vladimir Putin signed on October 20 a decree on non-working days in the country from Saturday till November 7 as an anti-coronavirus measure.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin introduced such days in the capital from Thursday till November 7.
